Gemotions

The subway rumbled beneath her feet, the vibrations echoing the tension in Amelia’s head. She felt leaden, the weight of her responsibilities pressing down on her. The daily grind had taken its toll, leaving her in a constant state of mental fog. She saw Ben, her friend, step off the train a few stops down the line. He worked at a prestigious law firm, or so he said. He was carrying a cardboard box, and a cheap-looking duffel bag.

Amelia's eyes narrowed. The law firm was in the opposite direction.

"Ben?" she called out, her voice barely a whisper. He looked up, his expression clouding over. The vibrant stories he always wove seemed brittle now, like they might shatter at any moment. She felt the energy drain out of her.
